Day 6

My University ID
We officially registered to be students at the University of Ghana today. So I got my ID card and went around to register for classes. Their system here for registering is so different from ours though. Their catalog will say what classes might be offered for the semester, and then you have to walk around to the notice boards of all the different departments that you want to take classes from to check to see if they are offering the courses you are interested in. The core classes are usually offered but the electives it’s just luck of the draw. The professors just choose which classes they feel like teaching that semester. So I went around to the Philosophy department first and found out that they aren’t offering the Philosophy of Art class that I was REALLY excited about. So, now I am trying to figure out what to take instead of that course. I also went and signed up for a traditional African dance class, though I’m not sure whether I am in the right level, so I just took the beginner class and I figure I can move up if I need to. The drama department puts up their class schedules tomorrow. So now I am just trying to figure out what other class to take. I was thinking I would either take a Greek epic and drama class or a traditional African drumming class. The drumming would be cool and I might be able to incorporate it into my senior project next semester at Fairmont, but I really love Greek theatre and I might take a Greek play and do an African adaption for my senior project. Any suggestions?

  1. That is a weird way to schedule classes.

Bummer about the Philosophy of Art class! It sounds like a total snoozer to me, but it stinks that you wanted it and it wasn't there. I was totally going to ask you in my last comment if there were African dancing classes. So cool! (I would probably need to take whatever is before beginning.)

Okay, so I know NOTHING about theater, NADA, but YOU ARE IN AFRICA! Take the drumming class!! It sounds SUPER cool. If you were in Greece, I would totally tell you to take the other.
