Day 5

More orientation today. We saw the library though, which was REALLY cool cause it still has like original card catalogs as well as the new computers and things. It is definitely set up like an OLD school library though, which was really cool as a library science minor. I also figured out my schedule, sort of…
I’m taking Playwriting, Fundamentals of Radio/TV and Film, Dramatic Theory and Criticism, and a philosophy class on aesthetics (which is basically the philosophy of art), I’m trying to also take History and Development of Theatre in Ghana which is the only African studies class they are offering in Theatre for this semester, but I might have to just audit it instead of getting a grade. Then I am auditing a Twi language course (p.s. Twi is the official spoken language of Ghana).

Also, the other day we had a presentation about studying abroad in Ghana from a student who was from Ghana and studied abroad in the United States and was helping us understand the differences we should expect in the classroom and from the experience. We talked about goal setting at the end, and did this activity with some adjectives, where we wrote down a whole board full of positive adjectives for our experience and then we each had to choose five words and input them into a sentence to help us define our goals. I just really liked the one I came up with.

“As I embark on this study abroad journey, my vision of my experience is exceptional, beautiful, and challenging, so that I will feel humbled and inspired.”

On another sort of note, I am having my first symptoms from eating the food here. Most of it is fine, but I ate a mango today off the street that looked okay, but now I have stomach cramps…. :(
P.S.- Pepto-Bismol is disgusting, but Pepto-Bismol knock-off…… WORSE!

  1. Your classes sound pretty cool for someone that is a theater major. I have never heard of Twi before. You will have to speak it to me when you return. I expect full sentences. :)

Sorry to hear about the mango. I wonder what could've happened to a piece of fruit that would make you so sick!

...I hope you're not drinking the water.
